I CAN'T GET THAT SONG OUT OF MY HEAD! My Current Music Obsessions.

Hello! I felt the need to put up a post since I am trying to make it a habit in my daily routine. I decided to compile a list of some of my favorite songs that I can't help but hit repeat on my iPhone. These are my latest song obsessions and my housemates can testify to this since I blast them high in the shower. Here it goes!

I discovered the song by accident, you know, one of those random radio stations on Spotify kind of things. ANYWHO! I am obsessed and find myself playing it while walking in between classes and writing papers. The lyrics are sparse but well chosen and lovely. I don't want love...except from The Antlers, of course.

We wake up with pounding heads,
Bruised down below.
I should have built better walls,
Or slept in my clothes.

So if I see you again,
Desperate and stoned,
Keep your prison locked up,
And I will leave my gun at home.

I don't want love.
I don't want love.

I have been listening to the Dear Science album a lot lately. My favorites are Love Dog, Halfway Home, and Family Tree. The lyrics in Family Tree are amazing and honestly endearing. Lead singer Tunde Adebimpe does a great job on vocals. The melody is haunting which makes me love it a little bit more.

Under my love
Wake up to your window
The day calls in billows
It's echoing moonlight on to the blue nightmare of your heart
In cozy red rainbow
It's shaking off halos
And the memory of our sacred so and so's

Another accidental gem. I play this frequently while studying or cooking in the kitchen. Singer Kristian Matsson has amazing vocals that reminds me of a weird wounded Swedish Bob Dylan (don't ask why). The lyrics are amazing on its own but the instrumentation only adds more depth. A staple in any playlist.

And as the early sign of dawn of thunder I see you stir the fog around
And when you find the boys and gears of sunset we'll hear that high and lonesome sound, oh
And I will question every wind if they gone through the glow of your eyes
Oh, you're just a riddle in the sky
Oh, where do my bluebird fly?

I first heard this song while watching Celeste and Jesse Forever, which is an amazing movie! Ugh! Favorite movie ever, but that's for another list. Sunny Levine provided a lot of the music for the film and this one just happens to be my favorite. I happen to listen to it a lot when I'm riding the bus.

Nobody's saying nothing at all
Baby why don't you break down the walls
A little something to brace the fall
Somebody help me place my call

Writing for one of my classes, I had to make a playlist so that I had the energy and inspiration to write over 20 pages of script every week. This one was chosen in a random shuffle and ever since then, it has been in the majority of my mixes and playlists. Jessica Lea Mayfield has a gorgeous voice without any of the fancy frills that other female singers have. Armed with a simple guitar, this song is more powerful than a thousand Def Leppard songs (Oh, yeah. I went there).

I don't know the meaning of love
But I know the meaning of fear
What will I do when that day comes
And I don't have you here

Another one from the almighty shuffle button. All songs have stories, but I love when stories become songs (if that makes sense). This is a cute one about seeing someone you fall in love with instantly because of the music that they like (story of my life, psh). It's a great song to play in the car while you're on your way to the record store to possibly meet your next lover.

So comfortably comfortably comfortably stuck in my own world
You can call it a dream world, the day that you came in.
I was watching you, watching me, watching you sit at the table
In your hand is a copy of the record laying in my bag.

I have a passionate love and am a follower of Patti Smith. I adore her with every fiber of my little heart and I would love nothing more than to meet her and talk to her about her life experiences. I got the Horses album on vinyl and have been playing it on my tiny record player in San Francisco whenever I get the chance to go back home. One of my favorites is Free Money, a song about providing for loved ones. Since it was hard for Patti to make ends meet when she first moved to New York, I feel like I'm getting closer to knowing her every time I hit play.

Find a ticket, win a lottery,
Scoop the pearls up from the sea
Cash them in and buy you all the things you need.

Every night before I rest my head
See those dollar bills go swirling 'round my bed.
I know they're stolen, but I don't feel bad.
I take that money, buy you things you never had.

I like several Cure songs but the one that tops the list is Disintegration. With a catchy beat and dark poetic lyrics that flow effortlessly from the painted red lips of Robert Smith, this song is sure to get me singing terribly along in the shower (along with some jazz hands). I cannot get enough of it and am considering making a CD mix for my housemates to listen to because this song has to be in everyone's music collection.

But I never said I would stay to the end so I
Leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
Screaming me over and over and over I leave
You with photographs pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both us knew how the ending would be

Keep on keeping on!

Some of My Favorite Items in the New Year!

Hello! I would like to share with you some of my favorite items for this New Year in 2014. While they range from quirky to chic, they are necessities (at least for me).

The Criterion Collection Edition of Rushmore
Anyone that knows me personally knows that I love Wes Anderson with all my heart. He is not only forever my top man crush monday choice but he is also someone I look up to for his humorous storytelling abilities. The first Wes Anderson film that I ever saw was Rushmore and it will forever be my all-time favorite movie. Max Fischer played by a young Jason Schwartzman makes the act of borderline psychotic stalking and destruction of property almost cute and lovable (correction, only when he does it). Bill Murray also shines in one of his most serious yet funny character roles as Mr. Blume. Rushmore is a film that I continually recommend to close friends and family members. I even used one of Max Fischer's lines as my own yearbook quote for christ's sakes! I am obviously obsessed.

"I've saved Latin, what did you ever do?" - Max Fischer.

Nothing, until I saw this movie.

Coco Mademoiselle Chanel Perfume
I have loved and been obsessed with this fragrance for a while now. It goes with any occasion and outfit, I personally enjoy it with a simple white slouchy shirt and dark wash jeans with flats. It smells like roses in a gorgeous full garden...and what I think Cate Blanchett would smell like (don't ask me why, cause I'm not sure). It's surely a fragrance that deserves to be on the top cabinet of everyone's drawers.  Do I like it more than the classic Chanel No.5 perfume? While I can't compare it to such an icon, I can say that this version is more sensual yet sweeter than No. 5. It's like Chanel No.5's younger and adventurous sister...who happens to live in a chic yet small apartment in France.

Kindle Fire HD
Okay, this is the thing that I cannot put down or keep away from my sight! I just want to announce that I am in love with my Kindle Fire! It is one of the best gifts that I have ever received and encourage everyone to get one! I've read many amazing books since receiving it and enjoy toting it around in my purse while I'm on the train or bus. It kills time and I can download my books quick and easy. I've read Just Kids by Patti Smith, which is an AMAZING book and currently re-reading Haruki Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart. If there is anything that I love. it's the ability to carry over twenty different books and PDFs in my purse/backpack!

Tieks Flats by Gavrieli
I ADORE FLATS! Not only are they comfortable and effortlessly chic BUT they really compliment any sort of outfit one might have. These are great because of the cushion, which provides the ease without any of the bulkiness other flats have. The flats even came with two bags: a tote bag and a small bag for the flats as well as a thank you card written personally by the Tieks team! TOO AWESOME! This all wrapped up in an adorable little box with a flower ontop! I adore these flats and will wear them from the local grocery market to a night out with friends.

Also, did I mention the rad color-blocking of the soles?! Cause it's preeeeettty rad!

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté in No. 9 Nude in Private
Lipsticks are lipsticks, am I right? Many will disagree with me on this statement (especially those who have makeup blogs). Now, I'm not saying that there isn't a difference between certain lipsticks. Some have better pigments, longer lasting power, better scent, and overall full coverage. There is no argument there, but for someone like me (who still is in college and cannot afford to spend money on high-end brands of lipsticks) I can't afford to spend my money on just any old brand. However, the difference of this Yves Saint Laurent lipstick is the pleasant smell and moisture it leaves on lips. No. 9 also known as Nude in Private is a pinkish nude/beige that I can just swipe on and head out the door.

Now, I am not saying that people should go out and spend over thirty dollars on a tube of lipstick. What I am saying is that if you do decide to buy a high-end brand, make sure it'll be one that you'll get a lot of use out and can go with many different things in your wardrobe. Think of it more as an investment piece. Any lipstick that you wear every now and then, then it's better to get it from the local drugstore. This brand and color just happens to be one of my favorites.

Lindt Lindor Truffles
I adore chocolate and one of my favorite brands is Lindt. Sometimes a girl just wants to come home, slip on their slippers and stain covered hoodie, watch crime shows on Investigation Discovery and melt away with some chocolates. Some of my favorites range from white chocolate to milk and peanut butter. Each one melts in your mouth (especially the white chocolate! So good!). IF you're having a hard day or just feel like treating yourself, Lindt is the to-go brand for chocolate...well, one of my to-gos.

Some favorites in the New Year!

Much love!
